What would your response be if your girlfriend told you to get over your moms death?

Depends on how long the death was ago- she never should have put it that way... But I've had friend that have lost people YEARS prior and nearly lost who they are. Sometimes "get over it" is really what they need to do. It's still sad, and the person was still important- but you can't throw your life away over another person's death.
