Should I move back home to upstate New York or to another area of the country?

I have two weeks to make a very big decision and I've always been an incredibly indecisive person. I am 30 years old and moved to Las Vegas with my boyfriend a little over a year ago as part of a lifelong dream to live in an exciting city. I had never before lived in any other city and didn't want to end up with regrets looking back on my life. Although there are aspects to Las Vegas that I enjoy (the weather, 24 hour city, proximity to California and Arizona), I greatly dislike other aspects and know that I do not wish to settle here. I do also miss home quite a bit. I am very close with my parents and the vast majority of my friends live back home. I have now given notice to my employer and have one more week left of work before my boyfriend and I pack up and move back home to upstate New York. I am quite ambivalent about this decision, however and am terrified that I will move back home only to find that I am bored and dissatisfied. I thought about the possibility of moving home temporarily to try it out and then possibly move to another area of the country such as California if it doesn't work out but this is very unfair to my boyfriend, whose career could be placed in jeopardy from lack of stable work history. I am an RN and have the ability to move more easily from job to job or place to place. I have always dreamed of experiencing life in other locales but I also know that I would like to settle down in one location so that I can save money, go back to school, save for a wedding, buy a home and have children. I'm just really frightened that I'll go back home and realize that I should have tried living in San Francisco or San Diego and not be able to do anything about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
